How will points on your license affect your car insurance policy?

As more and more people get speeding tickets, we thought it might be interesting to discuss how a speeding ticket would affect your policy in the future.

10 years ago it was relatively rare for someone to have 3 points on their license and even rarer for someone to have 6 points. These days tho things have changed dramatically. A large percentage of the population have 3 points on their license, does this make them bad people? Absolutely not, the government has just overdone the amount of "Safety" cameras around the UK.

So do I still have to declare that SP30 I got last year?

As with all things related to insurance, DECLARE EVERYTHING. Even tho your points come off after 2 years, you still have to declare the conviction for 5 years or your insurer could void your policy if you need to make a claim.

Will it make a difference to your policy?

Well unfortunately there just isn't a straight answer to this one. Some insurers will see a 19 year old with a speeding ticket as a high risk driver while others are happy to accept that it's just a minor offence.
