Being a student at university is an exciting time but in many respects is also a daunting time aswell. The student has many expenses and if he or she owns a car, there are extra expenses, i.e. the cost of running the car. Another important factor would be the car's insurance. This can be a very expensive affair as car insurance premiums for young drivers and total to be a substantial amount.
The Student has to weigh his or her options on what type of car insurance policy to have. Overall there are 3 main types of car insurance:
Having third party only car insurance will give the student the bare minimum required for him or her to drive on the road legally. It is also the cheapest out of the three. The risks involved must be considered as they may have future repercussions on the student, which initially may not have been anticipated. Such risks could include a debilitating injury resulting in a car accident. Even if the injury were to be extremely severe, the driver would not get any compensation. With the third party fire and theft car insurance policy, the driver is also covered if the car is stolen or destroyed by arson. This policy is generally slightly more expensive. Lastly, if the driver agrees to a comprehensive car insurance policy, he or she is fully covered. This means the coverage includes accidents with other drivers even when it was your fault. Also claims from other drivers if an accident occurred. But keep in mind this is an expensive car insurance policy.
