Many motorists recently breathed a sigh of relief as the proposal to ban radar detectors collapsed when the road safety bill ran out of time before last months elections. However before you decide that your radar detector will carry on protecting you from speeding fines and penalty points maybe you should read this article.
A new system recently unveiled could see radar detectors become useless in helping drivers avoid fines and penalty points. The new system is a camera that doesn't work with the use of any radar technology and there for will not be picked up by a car mounted radar detector.
The new camera works with the use of camera technology and basically films a car as it travels down the road. This picture is then fed to a computer that can accurately judge how fast a car is moving with the aid of a stationary object such as a lamppost or a tree.
This technology is basically undetectable and a driver will not know whether or not they are being filmed as they pass the camera. This technology could also find its way into mobile camera units and will dramatically cut the mount of appeals against fines because the police will have video footage of the offending driver.
Once testing has taken place we could see this technology in use on the road to help combat the problem of speeding drivers. With the prospect of the technology being adapted to help combat uninsured drivers and un taxed vehicles this new technology could make our roads a safer place and ultimately bring down car insurance premiums for all of us.
